Accessible Bathroom Remodel and In-Law Suite

Westlake Village

Our client wanted to transform an outdated bathroom in their in-law suite into a safer, more comfortable space for an elderly family member. The original design featured a standard bathtub-shower combo that made daily use difficult and unsafe. We were brought in to reimagine the layout with accessibility, functionality, and timeless design in mind.

Project Overview

We approached the remodel with a focus on safety and ease of movement, without sacrificing aesthetics. By opening up the floor plan, improving lighting, and introducing modern finishes, we created a elegant and practical space.

Design & Renovation Highlights

  • Walk-In Shower Installation
The existing bathtub was replaced with a low-threshold walk-in shower, making entry and exit safe. We included a folding teak seat, strategically placed grab bars, dual shower heads (rain and handheld), and slip-resistant mosaic tile flooring.

  • Closet Relocation
The previous closet location restricted space and flow. By relocating it, we were able to expand the shower area and create a more open, accessible layout.

  • Upgraded Vanity & Fixtures
A custom wood vanity with a sleek quartz countertop anchors the space, paired with a large framed mirror and modern lighting. Brushed nickel fixtures tie everything together with a refined, cohesive look.

Floating Shelving & Storage
Open wood shelving adds warmth and provides convenient access to daily essentials.

Results

The finished bathroom blends safety, comfort, and style. The walk-in shower provides peace of mind for the family, while the upgraded finishes and thoughtful layout create a calm, spa-like atmosphere. This remodel created a practical solution for aging in place.
